OS Innovation Challenge – Deep Technical Workshop
May 9, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am
This is a deep technical workshop: To better understand Ordnance Survey’s innovation challenge to businesses of all types and sizes.
Develop ubiquitous, high accuracy positioning solutions
Context: The application of raw GNSS data from Android devices, together with GNSS-based augmentation such as OS Net, will enable a vast number of users to benefit from enhanced positioning services. However, to date the market has been slow to react, with only one publicly-available application that exploits the raw GNSS measurements; a RINEX logger for Android from GEO++.
We at OS think that millions of cheap devices with the capability to log their position with high accuracy could be a game-changer that unlocks a raft of new business opportunities. We are delighted to sponsor this challenge to help UK business take a lead in defining and exploiting these opportunities.
We would like to encourage you, the entrepreneurs and innovators, to explore possible use-cases and develop solutions that utilise the Android raw GNSS signals. We will support you with GNSS-focused technical advice and offer market insights relating to existing applications of high-accuracy GNSS.
[1] This is the term Android have used to describe the measurement parameters available from the device, they are not baseband IQ.
Successful responses to the challenge join the OI Space Incubator – receiving 6-months of research support, entrepreneurial workshops, free workspace, an University of Southampton intern full funded for 10 weeks, visits to Harwell hosted by UK Space Agency, and much more.
This challenge is being developed as part of the UK Space Agency supported OI Space Incubator.
